Pouch or Ring Sling?

These are two great choices in baby slings, each wonderful in its own right.  Both types of baby carrier come in a wide variety of prints, ranging from no-nonsense and casual to trendy and fun to formal and luxurious.  And you can find fabulous selections of either type available in every price range.  Here is how the two differ from one another:

baby carrierFit.  The adjustability of the ring sling allows for differently sized people to share the carrier.  It also accounts for postpartum weight fluctuations - as the swelling and weight go down, your ring sling will still adjust perfectly to your size.  The pouch requires a precise fit that can sometimes take a few tries before getting correct - but the result is a streamlined appearance, and a carrier that folds down into nearly nothing.  You can stash easily stash an extra in your glove box or diaper bag.  Babywearers of varying sizes will require individual pouches in their respective sizes, but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing!

Function.  The adjustability of a ring sling also allows for flexibility of positioning.  A simple loosening of the fabric allows baby to rest in a cradle position, ideal for nursing or napping.  The tail provides extra coverage for the nursing mom or sleeping babe … some also come outfitted with handy pockets.  Pouches are fuss-free; no tails or adjusting, just an easy wear-and-go.  They are more difficult to nurse in, but it isn’t impossible to do. The Hotslings brand pouch offers convenient detachable pockets that coordinate with their attractive prints.
